The placenta is a remarkable organ. During pregnancy, the placenta grows alongside baby and nourishes their development. Considered by many as the tree of life for our bodies and our babies, it’s miraculous abilities don’t end there.
The 4th trimester, or the postpartum period, is a sensitive time for families. Along with the adjustment of bringing baby home and learning a whole new set of skills, we often forget about helping and caring for ourselves. The body has lost many nutrients, iron, blood and hormones during the birth. This may result in exhaustion, lack of breastmilk supply, slower physical healing from the birth and “baby blues.” By consuming the placenta after birth, you reintroduce many of these lost elements to heal, harmonize, and rejuvenate your body.
Encapsulating your placenta is the best postpartum gift you could give yourself. Reported benefits include:
- heightened energy
- balancing of hormones and less “baby blues”
- a full breastmilk supply
- less bleeding and pain
- a constant flow of the ‘love hormone’
- faster physical healing from the birth
- Information via email or phone on logistics planning
- pick up & drop off services
- approx. 75-175 placenta pills
- all supplies & materials
- cord keepsake
- information on storage & dosage
Placenta preparation explained:
Traditional Chinese Medicine Inspired Placenta Encapsulation
Inspired by Traditional Chinese Medicine, this method of preparation involves cleaning the placenta, gently heating the placenta with fresh ginger and then dehydrating the placenta before it is put into capsules. Using this preparation is thought to bring out the placentas healing and tonifying properties as well as warming and healing the uterus. This method creates a more “slow & steady” healing placenta pill.
Raw Placenta Encapsulation
The RAW method of preparation skips the heating process altogether. The placenta is still sliced, dehydrated and ground into a powder for the capsules. Raw food activists believe that steaming the placenta destroys some of the essential nutrients. Using this option provides an almost immediate burst of energy upfront and great hormone stabilization.
Additional $35 fee for 1/2 Raw & 1/2 TCM preparation
Putting part of your placenta in tincture form is an amazing way to stretch out its longevity and give yourself a “safety net”. Your placenta pills will last you anywhere from 3-6 weeks postpartum, but once they are finished, then what? Well, that’s where your tincture comes in. A small portion of placenta is added to >100 proof alcohol and set to ferment for 6 weeks, so once you are done with your pills, your tincture is ready to go! Some of the benefits include jump starting your milk supply (should your supply start to decrease at any time during your breastfeeding relationship), continued hormone stabilization in your postpartum menstruation cycles, less bleeding during those cycles, tightened energy (toddler running around anyone?), and for menopause years down the road. The female child can also benefit from placental tincture once she begins her menstruation cycles.
Fee: $50 for 8oz. (this will last you forever as you will only need 5-10 drops per dose)
A healing skin salve made of your placenta powder and a variety of healing herbs and oils offers healing properties to c-section scars once they are healed, hemorrhoids, perineal tearing, cracked or blistered nipples, eczema, sun burn, diaper rash, cradle cap, baby acne, skin irritation and more. Think of the salve as a super healing, organic, natural triple antibiotic ointment!
Multi-color Placenta Print
A beautiful hand made print of your placenta is a lovely way to remember your birthing day, acknowledge this wonderful organ for helping grow your baby and makes a beautiful wall decoration for the nursery! Made with organic food grade dye.
